- Sorry y’all, it’s another snow day here in ATL and my kids are out of school again. I’ll have to start this tomorrow when, Goddess willing, they’ll be back in school. It’s too chaotic here today.
Thursday, Jan 23, 2025
-
8:30 am: Woken up by Gemma who wants me to come down and play and is very confused about whether or not they’re going to school today. Thank Goddess they are, but they had a 2-hour delay this morning to the start. Jackson comes up to get me to come play and is absolutely distraught that he has to go back to school and has what feels like his hundredth meltdown of the week. This no structure thing is really bad for his mental health. Poor little bug. I go downstairs and we play a board game and eat some breakfast, get dressed for school and by 9:20 we are out the door.
- Responded to my 1:1 Voxer clienton my drive home. I just adore Naomi and having unlimited Voxer with her has been so amazing to get her questions answered when it’s convenient for both her and me!
-
9:55 am: Back home and feeling suddenly antsy about how I get to spend my short time without kids before it’s the weekend again. Start picking up around the house, throw in a load of laundry, make a Chai latte and just sort of piddle around for a bit.
-
10:15 am: FINALLY sitting down at my desk in peace and quiet. I’m the only one in the house today and it feels glorious. I almost hate to spoil it by working, ha! Though there are several things I’m really excited about and because I’m heading to NYC to visit my BFF next week, I need to knock out quite a bit of stuff today and tomorrow (definitely going to work Friday since I haven’t had a real workday all week, though I normally take Fridays off) to stay on top of things. Fortunately, I was able to get a bunch of emails written this week in between kid interruptions so I’m mostly feeling good about that. And also have realized that writing emails is by far my most favorite thing I do in my business, followed closely by actually coaching my clients live.
-
10:21 am: Alright time to start my morning start-up ritual (I detailed this in a previous diary here, and using the Toby chrome extension helps me make sure I always remember to check the things I need to every morning). Here’s that screenshot of what my startup ritual includes:

-
10:31 am: Get my playlist for today going, then check the calendar (a beautiful call-free next 2 days) and clean out my inbox.
- Super excited to have an email from a new sponsor, Ellen Yin, who is a peer from my MixerMind group who is putting her ad spend towards small business newsletters like mine, instead of Meta, which I think is so brilliant and something I plan to do more of this year too. If you’re interested in learning more about our sponsorships, check it out here
- Responding to my friend Sage about a Valentine’s Day promo we’re going to do together.
-
-
11:26 am: Alright, Inbox Zero ✅, all Slack questions answered ✅, and now ready to get started on my actual to do list for today. Up first, I need to apply to a few summits/bundles with looming deadlines. I’m doing less this year than 2024, but I’m already committed to 8 in Q1 and am going to apply for a few more.
-
I’ve gotten much pickier about what I will contribute to and I’d love to do a training on this where I share how I track bundles and summits, how to find them, what to contribute, how to manage new leads, etc. Is that something y’all would be interested in?
-
In fact, this is reminding me that I need to post a poll in Slack about upcoming GIDWs and make bundles/summits an option:
- Evergreen Email Sequences
- Summits + Bundles to Grow Your Email List
- AI Your Inbox
- Quit Social with a Static 9-Grid
- Daily Sales Challenge
- Launch a Shopify store
-
Now that I’ve been in dozens, I do get invites to my inbox several times a week, but I used to have to find things to apply to. Here are the places I find bundles/summits:
- https://www.facebook.com/groups/287221790229847 is my fave
- https://www.facebook.com/groups/145010804368014 is also great
- https://www.facebook.com/groups/893056791440264 for summits and other collabs
-
Even when I’m invited, I still have to fill out the application so that’s what I’m doing now. Here’s what I’m applying to today:
-
-
12:04 pm: Quickly had to pay out Tara Reid, one of my affiliates as we had an issue yesterday when I paid out my other affiliates due to her being Canadian and banking rules, restrictions, etc.
-
12:07 pm: Profit First transfers like I teach here. I am so proud to share that after 1.5 years of being in the red in my business, my profit margin in 2024 was 78%!
-
12:09 pm: Paid my sponsorship fee for the Mess of Success Summit, which is the summit I am MOST excited to be in this year so far. Ruth is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I know and I love this theme!
-
12:14 pm: Email affiliates about the price increase flash sale that starts tomorrow for MBA. I’ve decided to raise the price of my payment plans, but keep the PIF price the same. You’ll hear all about it in the emails I’m sending out over the next few days, but if you have any specific questions, please comment here.
-
12:34 pm: Sent a quick email reminder to all $1K/Day Experimenters to remind them that we’re live in this doc.
-
12:38 pm: Chatting with Kartra customer service to see about letting people apply KKCredit to existing subscriptions, like The Room and yay! I figured out an easy way for me to do this!
-
12:52 pm: Going to take a lunch break now and when I come back, I need to write my income report for December, which I think I’m just going to turn into an annual income report for 2024 instead? I also need to write an email promo for the Blogger Breakthrough Summit which I’m speaking at next week.
-
1:47 pm: Back at my desk. Gilmore Girls for my lunch break, AG1 pick-me-up. Time to write the BBS email.
- I thought I’d share a bit more about my process here. I have created a customGPT to be my email writer with examples of my past writing, a style guide, uploaded resources that explain more about who I am and what I do, etc. When I write promo emails like this, I’m always given swipe copy by the hosts. First I got into my customGPT and tell it that I need to write an email promoting this summit and I give it the swipe copy and tell it to customize it to my voice. That’s step 1. I then usually get an idea for what kind of story I want to tell in the intro, or lesson/advice I want to give. So then I have it go back and revise it based on the idea I give it. It usually takes some back and forth with me taking parts of what it’s written and then rewriting other sections, having it fill in some blanks for me where I’m struggling or want ideas for different ways I can say things or different examples I can use to illustrate my point. And usually in 20-30 minutes or less, I’ve got something that sounds like me, was mostly written by me, but took me wayyyy less time to actually write if I was doing it all on my own.
-
2:22 pm: Alright BBS email done. Just checking through my other email promos for next week since I’m traveling before I start the income report. I actually do need to write 1 more email for the Inner Circle cart close, and while I can work on it next week, I feel like getting the more urgent tasks done now and using next week on less timely items so I’m not stressed.
- I’m also working on my 1:1 outreach for this which I’m using MailMeteor to follow up with anyone who’s been clicking my links and expressing interest in Pinterest. So scheduling some follow up emails there too.
-
3:14 pm: Finished with all the Inner Circle emails. Going to take a quick break now. Got in a quick weight lifting session just to move my body, which I’ve admittedly not been doing much of this winter. It’s too cold! 🥶
-
3:44 pm: Back at my desk, knowing I have 1 hour left to work until I have a phone date with my bestie and the kids are back home. Going to try to get some quick wins in to finish out the day!
- Added a new testimonial to Inbox Insights in Shopify
- Added a new testimonial to Voxer Coachingin Shopify
- Added new testimonials to the Room after this past GIDW
-
4:37 pm: Okay that took longer than expected but there’s nothing like the high you get from reading through testimonials of your work and being reminded that what you do is meaningful and matters and is making a positive difference in people’s lives. I feel so lucky! Going to go upstairs and change so I can take a walk in the freezing cold while I talk to my friend. See y’all later!
-
5:30 pm: Back from my walk, had a really good chat with my friend, who is also one of the best therapists in NYC (not a bad friend to have), about an argument between my husband and me. She always gives me so much clarity around what this is really about and helps me see what I often can’t being so close to the situation. One of her best pieces of advice: “Focus on process, not content.”
- Kids are home now too, so I jump on the trampoline with them for half an hour. My parents got them one for Christmas and it’s been so much fun to play with them on it. I used to be a cheerleader (ugh I know! So not my vibe today), and I spent HOURS on my trampoline growing up. So many amazing memories from my childhood and I’m proud to report, I still got it. Back flips and all.
-
6 pm: Jackson’s piano teacher arrives and he goes to play with him, while Gemma and I make dinner. Mattie has to work a bit late tonight so after we get dinner ready, we play Go Fish until Mattie is done and can grill the pork chops (we made ranch mashed potatoes (thank you Trader Joe’s for the best seasoning blends!) and roasted broccoli.
-
7 pm: Mattie does bath time with the kids and I clean up a bit downstairs and rest on the couch. Kids come down and we watch Bluey all cuddled up together (Jackson always calls it “snuggle buggle”) before bedtime. It’s my turn to do bedtime, so we go up around 7:45, read a story and they’re both out. Whew! Full day!
-
8 pm: Mattie and I watch Jeopardy and then a few How I Met Your Mother re-runs, while I look at tattoo inspiration and then head upstairs around 9:30 to take a bath.
-
10:30 pm: In bed and reading Onyx Storm before I fall asleep.
-
$182.00 in sales from the shop and The Room, Launch Lab + $1k/Day
-
$250 in sponsorship for my newsletter
Friday, Jan 24, 2025
-
7 am: Wake up and get the kids ready for school, drop them off and head home to get back in bed to read for a bit. I love these quiet winter mornings when I come home to an empty house and don’t immediately rush into work or the day. I’ve been reading Onyx Storm this week, though I only got about 15 minutes in before I fell back asleep.
-
9:15 am: Alarm #2 goes off and I’m awake, but not ready to get out of my cozy bed just yet. Start my new favorite pastime, which is scrolling through pictures of tattoos. It is so relaxing and feels like a creative outlet for me. I’m getting a few new ones next week in NYC and though I already know what I’m going, I just love the beauty and meaning behind tattoos.
-
9:45 am: Okay finally out of bed. My sweet husband brought me a pistachio latte and Chickfila biscuit, so I’m eating, getting into some workout clothes and cleaning up the house. Vox back my 1:1 client who just shared that she’s "so helpful thank you … wins: having added those two additional emails, we got more sales coming through overnight and what I'm really excited about is that they're coming in from completely new people and I just want to thank you because the conversation that we had the other day has just been such a game changer and even when you were talking about the daily sales and saying even if it's a lesser amount you'd rather see daily sales than like bigger amounts has really helped me crystallize what I've intuitively been feeling and it's really helping guide my strategy even more. So I just wanted to say thank you for that. And I wanted to update you that yes the sales are trickling in and I'm noticing that if I don't email the sales aren't coming through so there definitely is a connection we get the influx of sales directly after an email.” Love love love. YES! I had just told her the more emails I send, the more money I make. She put it to the test in her launch happening right now and clearly found the same to be true.
-
10:25 am: On my treadmill and walking desk, starting work for the day. Going to update this doc first.
-
10:38 am: Okay doc updated and going to start my morning ritual.
-
11:14 am: All emails and customer service answered, daily sales tracker updated, Slack up to date, and 2.01 miles walked. Hopping off now, taking a quick break and then sitting down to do some focused work.
-
11:30 am: Back at my desk.Going to post the MBA Price Increase details in the Slack channelas the first email about it just went out. Scheduling some other slack messages now too.
- Cannot stop listening to this song.
- Writing the rest of my emails that need to go out next week since I’m traveling. Super excited to share about my new sponsor’s Paid to Create event.
-
1:44 pm: Wow time flies when you’re writing. Feels good to be ahead so I won’t be stressed on my trip now. So many fun things coming up. You’ll see that I’ve put an emphasis on partnerships and collabs in 2025 so I’m doing several affiliate launches, JV webinars, sponsorships and swaps in Q1. While part of me worries slightly that it might be “too much” or just overwhelm people, most of me knows that my people are smart, capable of discernment and can decide what’s for them and what’s not. So some people may want to join the Pinterest program with me, while others may not but may be psyched about the DOO program, while others may just want to stick with GIDW, etc. There’s always lots going on and I trust that my people can decide for themselves. Now it’s time for a break.
-
Just noticing that I keep procrastinating writing the income report and wondering what’s really going on here. December was one of my lowest income months of the year…maybe I’m embarrassed to share? I also go back and forth on how helpful income reports are and putting too much emphasis on money, even though the reports themselves are hardly about money at all. Wondering if people really read these and find them valuable maybe? Maybe even some emotional fatigue from wrapping up the year… I'm not usually one to procrastinate. Vulnerability hangovers are real, but maybe I just need to take the advice of Mel Robbins and the book I’m reading and loving currently: Let them. What if someone judges me for a lower income month and would think less of me? Let them. I think I need to really think about what my intention is with income reports. Maybe I’m placing too much pressure on this report to do more than it needs to? What if “good enough” is actually enough? My ChatGPT therapist asked: “Is it possible that skipping December’s report—or writing it in a different format—could honor your energy instead of forcing something that feels heavy?” Hmm that’s a good idea. It also said, “The doubt about whether people read these reports or find them helpful might be your inner perfectionist’s way of avoiding rejection or indifference. You might think, If no one cares, then why put myself out there? Question to reflect on: What feedback have you gotten on these reports in the past? How would you approach this differently if you trusted that someone will find value in it—even if it’s just one person?” YES! What if you approached this as an act of service rather than a performance? What if this report wasn’t for everyone but just for someone who needs it right now? OOOH AI, sometimes you are so good I cannot believe it.
- Journaling a bit on this here for y’all to see my thought process. My intentions with income reports: Transparency as a Teaching Tool by using my own business as a case study and a blueprint for intentional, soul-aligned growth.
- A recurring theme is proving that social media isn’t a necessary evil. I really love showing that alternative strategies (SEO, email, bundles, etc.) work—and work well and even better. I love being the permission slip for those looking to leave the hamster wheel of endless posting.
- I’m not positioning myself as someone with all the answers, but as someone willing to test, tweak, and share the process. I feel like this isn’t done enough in our industry.
-
-
2:35 pm: Okay now I’m really going to take a break. Started working on the income report after working through why I was procrastinating and after my break, I’ll come back and finish it.
- Played around with tattoo designs, sent a message with some ideas to an artist in Atlanta and generally just doodled and got out some creativity. Even if these never turn into anything other than doodles, I love having this new outlet for self-expression.
- Got to have a fun Facetime with my bestie who I’m visiting in NYC.
-
5 pm: Ugh fine. I’ve got 30 minutes until the kids get home. I guess I’ll work on the income report.
-
5:45 pm: Done! And now the kids are home and it’s time to go play!
-
Rebills of MBA payment plan, $1K/Day and Launch Lab
Monday, Jan 27, 2025
-
7:55 am: I traded with Mattie this morning to take the kids to school because I stupidly stayed up until 1 am last night and was soooo tired this morning. But I had to force myself out of bed because I had virtual therapy at 8 am. So I literally rolled myself out of bed, brushed my teeth and hopped on zoom in my pajamas.
-
9:03 am: Done with therapy, desperately need a hot beverage. Going to make a Chai with some collagen protein. And gotta feed the kitties and give Scout her thyroid meds.
-
9:16 am: OK back at my desk. I’m going to quickly revise the Income Report blog post I finished on Friday as I re-read it over the weekend and forget a few crucial details and found it a bit redundant. Sometimes you just gotta put the thing out there and see how you feel before you can know if it’s any good.
-
9:52 am: Done. Feeling much better about the post now. Have you read it yet? Time for my morning start up ritual.
-
10:54 am: Done. Inbox zero, caught up on Slack, dealt with all outstanding customer service issues. Feels good to start the week off on a clean slate now. I’m only working today and tomorrow as I head to NYC on Wednesday, so I need to get some things in order. But for now, I’m going to take a quick break and get ready for the day. I’ve got a podcast interview at noon, and a Mixermind group call this afternoon.
- Catching up on my Mixermind Voxer messages while I get ready. Got some cool ideas like potentially trying an evergreen open house, private podcast funnel (maybe converting our beyond the scroll challenge to be more like this), thinking about bringing SMS back to have 1:1 DMs with prospects outside of social media, though maybe Voxer would be better? This is an alternative to sales calls…
-
11:32 am: Back at my desk and replying to my 1:1 Voxer client.
-
11:54 am: Responding to my friend who I’m doing a workshop trade with at the end of February and we need to start planning.
-
11:57 am: Prepping for the podcast interview I’ve got on the Simple Pin podcast about ditching social media. It starts in a few minutes.
-
12:40 pm: Done with the podcast. So good! Kate Ahl asked me the best questions. Time for a lunch break.
-
1:22 pm: Back at my desk. Need to submit my materials for the upcoming The Let's Get Digital Bundle.
-
1:54 pm: 6 minutes before my next call, so not really enough time to start anything. Going to just check emails and Slack. Need to submit my materials for the Roots to Reach summit afterward.
-
4:04 pm: Mixermind call complete. This was the first call with my new pod of 6 incredible women and (WO)MAN! It was so awesome. Relationships are so important as an entrepreneur, and I love that I have more smart brains and kind hearts to bounce ideas off of, get advice, trade notes and collab! Time for a quick potty break and a snack.
-
4:32 pm: Submitting for Roots to Reach Summit.
-
4:45 pm: Looking at my Q1 goals and priorities to map out how I’m going to actually get some of these things done. Had a great chat with my Mixermind about hiring on a project basis, rather than ongoing, as I know I need some help to tackle some of these things, …here’s what I need help with if you know of anyone that could be a good fit:
- I've been updating all the portals for the dozens of courses we sell now to include more information on upsells, affiliate program, MBA discounts, etc. and I'm about halfway through. But I could use some help finishing the rest. This is pretty much a copy/paste job using a template, so tedious but easy.
- I want to design a new version of the MPP as a fillable Google doc, with some updated prompts and pages. But mostly just transferring the PDF Canva version to Google docs in a way that's easy to use and still looks branded.
- Update Tripwire Funnels, Bumps + Upsells for everything in Kartra. I need to better organize this and make sure that all these tiny funnels are leading to the right things and the right pages, and are set up so that I can easily track funnel performance for each item. And figure out the best system for what's in Shopify vs Kartra.
- I want to Add cart abandonment emails to Kartra products. I will give you the email template and just need you to create all the funnels in Kartra.
- Slack update emails. I want to send a reminder email each week to our Slack members to encourage them to check out what's happening in the channel and drive engagement back there. This would entail rounding up some recent conversations and just setting up a draft email in Kartra for me to send.
-
5:10 pm: Time to go get the kids. See ya tomorrow!
Tuesday, Jan 28, 2025
-
7 am: Wake up, rush to get the kids ready for school. Gem and I were snuggling in my bed for a bit this morning and now we’re scrambling to get out the door. It’s a cheese stick breakfast kind of morning 🤦🏻♀️ Listen to Taylor Swift and other pop songs on the way to school (my kids have turned me into a Top 40 listener even though my old soul rarely listened to music made after 2000…and let me tell you, it’s damn catchy!). On my drive home, I switch over to listening to one of the best audiobooks, Let Them. Determined to stay awake instead of going back to bed today, as it’s my last day in the office this week since I’m headed to NYC tomorrow. So grateful for grandmas–Matt’s mom is coming to stay with the kids while we go away.
-
7:45 am: Making some coffee and feeding the kitty cats before I sit down to work. Actually feeling pretty awake. I went to bed at 11:30 last night which is a drastic improvement as of late, but is still nearly 2 hours past my usual bedtime.
-
7:55 am: Updating the price on MBA’s payment plan. Really bummed and surprised to see that we didn’t make a single sale during our quick price increase Flash sale. The past 6 weeks have been strange for sales. Our EOY MBA promo was pretty slow too, and now this. But then our GIDW promo got over 2 dozen new sign-ups for The Room. I think times are strange right now. I personally have been in complete intentional denial about politics and the news since the election, and especially with the recent inauguration. I’m just not ready to accept he who shall not be named again. But between that and the wildfires, etc. I think people’s emotional bandwidth and spending behavior is being affected right now. When the world feels unstable, I think many may prioritize their basic needs, loved ones, or mental health over big business investments, which makes perfect sense. So I think I may switch up my strategy slightly for the rest of Q1 to not hammer MBA quite as hard upfront and instead to some promos and Flash Sales around some of my lower ticket, or higher touch offerings, like The Room, Voxer Coaching, $1k/Day, Launch Lab, etc. In fact, I really want to do some pushes to get people on the annual plan for my recurring revenue products, so I think I will plan something for LL and The Room in particular for February and March. MBA can always be upsold on the backend and come Spring, people may be in a better position for larger investments and just that kind of energy. Which honestly aligns better with my own energy and mood right now too as I’m still wintering.
-
8:06 am: Catching up on this Google doc.
-
8:17 am: Morning start up ritual commencing…
- 8:31 am: Taking a quick detour to update a few things in the $1k/Day portal after I did the daily sales tracker.
- 9:40 am: Whew, okay that ended up being a bigger project than I expected because I really got into data analysis and some planning of my own. I feel SUPER clear and aligned about what’s coming in the next couple of months now. Now I need to get back to my start up ritual, which is now just checking emails and cleaning out my inbox. Hoping I can get this done in 20 minutes. Starting the pomodoro timer now!
-
10:25 am: Done. Took my longer than 20 minutes, but I also shared one of the questions I got via email in the Slack channelbecause it was an objection I think others might have about The Room. Ready for a break now… trying to decide if I want to force myself to go for a run or workout, which I think I do. Even if it’s just a mile. It feels good outside today!
-
11:11 am: Back from a 2-mile run. Once I got going, it was easy to keep going. Well easier than getting started. I used to run 10ks a few times a month, but after a few knee and hip injuries (all minor) prevented me from running for a while, I fell out of the habit. The weather was too perfect today not to go outside in the sunshine and fresh, crisp air. Feel amazing now, nothing like that runner’s high!
-
Alright, looking at what I need to accomplish today so I can take the rest of the week off while I’m in NYC:
- Respond to Inbox Insight clients ✅
- WSL ✅
- Email affiliates about GIDW ✅
- Do a client’s critique
- If there’s time, write an email promoting The Room (I’m okay to skip this this week if not because I’ve been sending a ton of emails lately and the SPM Inner Circle launch is ending on Thursday and I want to keep the focus there).
-
-
11:17 am: Responding to Inbox Insight clients.
-
12:03 pm: Done with those emails. Moving onto the WSL, though I’m just going to get started because I need to eat lunch and get ready for The Roomcall at 1.
-
12:39 pm: Breaking now.
-
1 pm: The Room revenue planning call.
-
2:25 pm: Done with the call, we went a bit over talking about my system for bundles and summits, which I’m going to turn into a GIDW. Now taking a lunch break, and my mother in law just got here so chatting with her for a bit.
-
2:53 pm: Back at my desk, finishing up the WSL for Sunday.
-
3:20 pm: Done with WSL, need to upload the Room call to the portal now. And now I’m going to schedule my email to affiliates about February’s GIDW.
-
3:41 pm: Done with all that. Thank God for AI. Love using ChatGPT to write swipe copy for my affiliates. I’ve got about 15 minutes until my mastermind call so I’m going to take a peek at my client’s critique and see if I can do it in this window. Ok she was actually missing a piece of info that I needed, so I won’t be able to do it today. Going to respond to a few emails before my call then.
- I’m doing a sponsored newsletter with Tarzan Kay for GIDW so I’m emailing her assistant with some details about that and signing the contract.
-
4 pm: Mastermind call.
-
5:36 pm: Call over. So excited for the promo I’m doing with Sage next month for MBA/LEA BOGO. It’s going to be so fun! Alright, kids are home, time for me to go play with them and start packing for NYC. We head out tomorrow AM. This has been so fun y’all. I’ll be back next week to finish the Final Roundup section with other takeaways and lessons.
Things I’m Pondering…
Revenue Fluctuations over the years…
My daily average is way down right now after taking most of December off and pausing promotions. Even though I’ve been slowly easing back into work in January and have run a few promos, my average daily revenue from passive product sales is still down. Lower than it’s been in months actually. I noted above that it could be the current heaviness in the world and some external circumstances. It could also be me. I’m digging into this now and looking at data vs drama.
But one thing I’ve noticed is that I'm at a point now where I can fairly easily make at least $10k/month without doing anything live. That just happens thanks to my systems. In fact, even when I look back at my sabbatical when I wasn’t working AT ALL, I made an average of $11k per month. Absolutely incredible when I really think about that, even though my ego likes to tell me that it’s not good enough because I used to make $50k/month.
Regardless, what I’ve realized now is that if I want to grow my email list or get an influx of sales/cash injections to surpass that $11k, I have to actually show up and do the work. At least until I get ads turned on which is my #1 priority in February.
I actually went back for the past 5 years to analyze income ebbs and flows and fluctuations and here’s what I found:
Q2 is by far my best quarter, followed by Q4, Q1, Q3. Which makes sense, though is slightly misleading because of what happens at the monthly level:
November: $296,215.49
January: $235,435.23
May: $211,155.72
December: $164,666.30
September: $144,913.95
October: $136,731.41
March: $133,799.12
August: $131,999.48
July: $131,091.98
June: $156,141.73
April: $126,228.70
February: $101,872.13
So this is a bit different than years past, as January and December are usually some of my higher earning months. A few observations I can make:
-
Why November: November likely benefits from Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and pre-holiday shopping. This is when people are primed to spend on courses, coaching, or digital products, especially with discounts and promotions. It’s also been my last big push of the year before I take most of December off, which I have since 2020.
-
Why January: The "new year, new me" mindset drives spending on self-improvement, business growth, and productivity tools. People are more motivated to invest in courses, memberships, and coaching. I think in years past, I leaned into this more. For the last couple of years, I’ve been taking a more feminine approach and trying to avoid that messaging because I think it’s harmful to our mental health. So this tells me I may need to figure out a way to harness the new year energy in a way that feels in alignment with my values.
-
Why May: Spring often brings a sense of renewal and preparation for summer, making it a good time for launches and challenges.
-
Why February: February is post-holiday, when people tighten budgets. Many are recovering financially from holiday spending and less likely to make big investments. This is in line with what I was sharing above about switching gears and using February for nurturing leads with free or low-cost resources rather than launching big-ticket items. Focus on relationship-building to prepare for higher-converting months.
-
June, July, and August show moderate performance. This aligns with summer distractions like vacations and less focus on business investments. A good time to highlight flexibility and quick wins that don’t disrupt summer plans. February and summer months are ideal for refining systems, nurturing relationships, and preparing for high-energy periods.
-
March, September, and October are transitional months—March follows the post-holiday slump and September/October align with back-to-school/work energy. These are also usually when I’ve done big launches for things like DCA.
-
My best months far outpace my lowest months, and this disparity shows me how highly dependent my income is on events like launches, promotions, or external factors. And because this can make it harder to predict or stabilize income over time, it is also a good reminder to me (and confirmation of where I feel like I’m headed) to get some steady recurring revenue streams set up, like from memberships and evergreen funnels. And also diversifying income streams could help balance income throughout the year, which I think newsletter sponsorships and affiliates through blogging and SEO could potentially help.
-
I really have had a gradual downtrend in revenue in recent years, which in some ways has been very intentional (at least starting in 2024) and due to the fact that I used to have income from 2 businesses until 2022. I also very clearly saw an incredibly positive impact on my revenue during the Pandemic, which forced people online. Many turned to digital resources for self-improvement, new skills, and side hustles, which heavily boosted my income, not to mention stimulus payments in early 2021 likely boosted consumer spending power. But towards the end of 2021 and into 2022, as more entrepreneurs entered the online space, competition likely increased for attention, people began resuming pre-pandemic activities, possibly leading to decreased attention on online resources, and early signals of inflation and economic instability likely made consumers cautious, and by the end of 2023, inflation was a dominant concern in the U.S., straining consumer spending power, which I felt very strongly starting around August 2022. I also noticed that post-pandemic Zoom and course fatigue with digital resources may have reduced enthusiasm for new online programs, especially those requiring significant time or money commitments. While I saw A LOT of signs of recovery by mid-2024, as I was returning from a 6-month sabbatical, which could explain some rebound in my income, I was still taking it quite slow and really scaling back my business instead of being in growth mode. So while I made more money in 2024 than I did in 2023 (especially when you factor in the debt I had to take on to cover payroll in 2023), it was still a very low income year for me relatively speaking. My lowest since 2018. When I really think about it like I am here, it makes total sense.
- In other ways, I’ve really struggled mentally with the drop and tying my identity/worth to my revenue. I’ve been sharing a lot about this with one of my Voxer clients who has experienced something similar and I overall feel really good with where I’m at right now. But I thought it might be helpful to share in case anyone here can relate. You are not alone.
So all of that to say, I’m really thinking about how I want to show up in 2025, especially with the context of Trump's second presidency and the sensitive, progressive nature of myself and my audience. And I know it’s more crucial than ever to align my strategies with our emotional landscape, values, and needs. So here’s what I’m thinking:
Double Down on Values-Driven Marketing
-
My audience likely feels a renewed sense of vulnerability, anger, or grief given the political climate. Like me, they want to support businesses that align with their values and take a stand. So I plan to be unapologetic in my messaging. Acknowledge their feelings, create spaces for community and healing, and lean into my identity as a feminist, anti-Patriarchy entrepreneur.
- Share actionable steps: Highlight how my work empowers them not just financially but also emotionally and socially, giving them agency in turbulent times.
- Integrate activism into my offers. For instance, donate a percentage of profits to causes I/they care about or collaborate with organizations working toward justice. This worked really well and felt even better when I did the Planned Parenthood promo last Fall.
- Offer content that addresses emotional resilience, mindset work, and practical strategies for navigating uncertainty.
- Design products that help them create stability in their businesses, such as tools for financial predictability (e.g., budgeting for volatile times) or simplifying their workloads to avoid burnout.
- Consider launching a program that combines emotional support with practical action steps, such as a “Resilient Business Roadmap.”
- Position my offers as tools for creating businesses that fuel systemic change. For instance, emphasize how my teachings can help them build wealth to fund activism, take care of themselves, and dismantle oppressive systems.
- Shift Toward Recurring Revenue to stabilize my income, especially in a time of political and economic unpredictability. It also gives my audience predictable support and guidance without the pressure of big-ticket commitments.
- Tap Into the Collective Need for Rest and Healing: The hustle culture narrative feels especially toxic in the current environment. People crave space to breathe, rest, and recover while still making progress. Reinforce my “work from a place of rest, not hustle” messaging. Promote offers that balance self-care with mindful productivity, such as Clockwork Queen or time-management tools rooted in feminist principles. Create spaces for community connection and group coaching where they can process emotions while building their businesses.
Leverage SEO and Organic Growth
- My no-social-media approach is even more relevant as people grow weary of divisive platforms and seek more intentional ways to connect. So I really want to focus on evergreen blog content, SEO, Pinterest, and my email list to grow without burnout. And also reassure my audience that they, too, can thrive without social media, which aligns deeply with their values and desire to step away from polarizing platforms.
How to get more people engaged on Slack
I’ve been thinking about how I could remind people to check our Slack channel and engage a bit more after a few folks in the Room answered a question I posted there about whether they like the GIDW prompts via email, slack or both, and everyone said “email because it comes to me and I don’t always remember to check Slack.” Hmm, my interest is piqued. Could I be emailing people to let them know what’s happening in Slack each week and increasing engagement there? But I already email almost every day, is that the best use of that precious space? Maybe… what else could I do to remind people to check Slack? Very open to ideas and suggestions please. Here’s what ChatGPT suggested.
