01 · The question
I’ll piggyback on Tara’s comment because I just got pushback from someone who didn’t want to host me on her podcast because she has decided not to collaborate with competitors. Weird. Bummer for her. How do you deal with competition? I suspect it’s about leaning into your unique flavor…but what does that look like for you and how do you build those relationships?

03 · The short version
Kate's take, in a sentence or two
Kate says that person's reluctance to collaborate reflects scarcity thinking on her part, not anything about Kate—she doesn't believe in competition and sees herself as a curator who brings in other perspectives even when she has her own expertise to offer. For collaborations like JV webinars, she looks for adjacent partners who serve the same clients differently (like an accountant, since she does marketing) rather than direct competitors, but podcast guesting feels different since it's not a direct sales pitch, so competition feels irrelevant there.
